Title: For This Once, Never Again
Author:
cccpirate / Karlie
Characters: Hisana, Byakuya, Gin
Rating: PG? No more than PG-13, surely.
Summary: Gin hates sad stories. Hisana's life was full of them. Based on a theory about Rukia.
Link: http://cccpirate.livejournal.com/22 805.html

Superb character writing (especially of Byakuya).
[Sort of related, why does Gin have it in so badly for Rukia? Is this just a case of putting the manga heroine in danger or is there some past history there? Or does Gin enjoy tormenting her because she reacts so obviously? Thoughts are welcome below.]
A second fic recommendation: The Winter War Series by
incandescens,
liralen, and
sophiap. This an AU "What If Aizen Won?" scenario, and that scenario is suitably bleak and blood-stained. But the writing is fantastic. I look forward to these updates almost as much as I look forward to the new manga chapters.

Many of you probably saw this when
fenikkusuken posted it in her journal a few months ago. But I finally got around to watching it tonight and had a good laugh. From the same talented wiseguys who did the Abridged Avatar Series.
(And watching this makes me feel so fond and warm toward Inuyasha. Even with the endless sword upgrades. What a fabulous fandom.)

I wrote these for the "Perfect Drabble" challenge at
katara_zuko (prompts are taken from
zutara100):
Prompt: #074 - Light
Word count: Perfect 100
Rating: G
( In Which Zuko Puts the Cart Before the Ostrich Horse )
Prompt: #018 - Truth
Word count: Perfect 100
Rating: G
( Completely Impossible )
Your editing input is sought. Second drabble, third line from the bottom. Should it be "She swallowed" or "Toph swallowed" ? It seems pretty clear who the 'she' in question is and I was afraid that a string of "Toph did x" would sound clunky. On the other hand, it might also add humor...?

You will NOT revise and repost a 100 word drabble for the twentieth (that's a literal count, folks! :P) time. You WILL work on other things tonight.
For the f-list who write/may be interested in writing Katara/Zuko fic,
katara_zuko is running a "perfect drabble" (100 words exactly) contest. Entries are due by midnight EST tonight. The rules are here. The entry post is here. Some very nice things have appeared. :)
And..... your moment of cat zen:
DO NOT mess with Mama Cat.

Just discovered the community below. I've been poking around and really like what I'm finding. Thought I'd share:

Stolen from
redbrunja. This meme looks fun because it's from the fanon angle (too often it's just canon that gets clawed to the death over discussed):
Give me a character/pairing from any fandom I participate in and I'll give you one fanon that I don't agree with.
I've been catching up on podcasts of This American Life and a recent episode featured a reading and selection of homages to William Carlos Williams' poem This Is Just To Say. I wrote a GinRan betrayal version---the sorry/not sorry voice was too perfect: This Is Just To Say (links to post at
ginran).
Thoroughly enjoying two books right now: The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Díaz and Yokai Attack! The Japanese Monster Survival Guide (they're surprisingly compatible). I have no idea how accurate the latter is, but it's an amusing, breezy guide to Japanese demons. My favorite current creature, with image swiped off the internet (I have to do something, original fic-wise with this):
Akaname. English names: Bathtub Licker, Filth Licker. Height: Five Feet. Distinctive Features: Long, tangled hair. Unnaturally tinted skin, often reddish in color. Often quite feral-looking. Long, pointed tongue. Favorite foods: Dead skin, mildew. Habitat: Filthy bathrooms.
This creature comes with the flushed complexion of one who's just stepped out of a hot bath--and an insatiable desire to dine on the scummy residues that build up in and around tubs. Neglect your cleaning duties and you'll increase your chances of running into this disgusting character.... The disgusting thought of having the inside of one's bathtub slathered by a slimy yokai tongue aside, it's hard to describe the Akaname's behavior as aggressive or dangerous.... Encounters are nearly always limited to the summer months, when the bathrooms are even steamier, moldier, and stinkier than usual.

So I actually put my name up a few days ago but neglected to follow the rules and promote it. Whoops.

If, purely hypothetically, I wrote a giftfic for you, what top three pairings and/or scenarios would you want me to write? Even if you don't think I'm into the fandom, just tell me what you would want from me. And if you wouldn't want a fic from me, that's fine too!

Another short Bleach fic. The comic timing is a little off in places and I may keep tinkering with it. But I don't have a lot more time these days and I decided to share, as is, before it joins the never-finished-fic graveyard.

Ah. The High Maintenance One.
Your result for The Harry Potter Husband Test...
Mrs. Lupin
Your perfect HP man is Remus Lupin.

You like a nice, kind guy with a bit of a fierce streak and you don't mind if he comes damaged. Sure, he may take some convincing since his self-esteem's so low, but once you win him over, you know he's yours for life. Unless of course he has an attack of "I'm not good enough" and runs away, but luckily he's also good at making friends who will push him back into line if necessary.

Friends-only, RL update coming in the next day or two (summation: it's the economy and the book). But in the meantime,
misora hooked me into Bleach again and I needed an excuse to procrastinate whipped up a Gin/Rangiku drabble (this is my fanfic journal, after all!):
Eleven Truths About Rangiku & Gin
PG-13 (to be safe)
Approximately 400 words
xo.
Manon. ^_^
(Also, RE: Bleach. I've been catching up in the past month. WTF, AIZEN WAS EVIL?!?!!!)
More to come.

Beginning day seven of Life Without Laptop. My trusty little Macbook is in the shop. The gallery was closed last week so I went through five days without email/internet and only had one slow period at work this afternoon when I could browse LJ.
My files are probably okay, but they may not be able to save the programs. And, unfortunately, my copies of Word and Photoshop were installed by my previous gallery and I without the discs I can't reinstall them (and as Photoshop CS is approx. $800 I won't be able to purchase it, either).
*head desk*
In happier news, spent several days in Santa Fe last week and New Mexico becomes more lovely and enchanting every time I visit... it's currently on the top of the list of places I could see myself moving to if and when I'm ready to make the break with New York.
(For the record, the water was spilled and not snorted. It's costing me $700 to learn that one should NEVER EVER place a glass on one's writing desk. LEARN FROM MY MISTAKE, FRIENDS.)
Hope everyone is enjoying September.
